Abner Doubleday Signed Document (PSA)

Abner Doubleday Signed Document (PSA)

This signed document bears the signature of the supposed inventor of baseball, Abner Doubleday. Though this erroneous claim has been disproven, there is no doubt that Doubleday was a Union hero during the Civil War and an exemplary American. He is said to have fired the first shot at Fort Sumter and led the 1st Corps at Gettysburg after Reynold's death. The signed endorsement contains his bold signature,"Abner Doubleday" with rank in another hand as "Colonel 24 Infantry Bvt. Maj. Gen''l U.S.A." Matted with an original albumen photograph of Doubleday in uniform and set into a gilt wood frame that measures 18.25x17". A 4" closed tear passes above the subscription, but it is otherwise VG. Comes certified by PSA.
