Afleet Alex Blemont Stakes Shoe

Afleet Alex Blemont Stakes Shoe

The history of the American classic races hold much lore of courage and strength, of near misses and moments of perfection. In 2005, Afleet Alex added to this rich history, and we are proud to offer a shoe from his victory in the third jewel of the Triple Crown. After finishing a close third as one of the favorites in the Kentucky Derby, Afleet Alex famously averted tragedy in the Preakness. At the head of the stretch at Pimlico Race Course, he clipped heels and nearly tumbled in what could have been one of racing's most catastrophic moments. But the son of Northern Afleet, displaying an athleticism and competitive spirit never before seen on a racetrack, literally picked himself off the ground and recovered to win in most dramatic fashion.Three weeks later in the Belmont Stakes, Afleet Alex’s poise and talent wowed the crowd in New York, where jockey Jeremy Rose confidently rated the handsome bay colt before unleashing him in the upper stretch where Alex exhibited a jaw-dropping burst of speed for a runaway victory in the aptly named "Test of the Champion." The race was considered to be one of the stand-out performances of the year but would be the final start in Alex's celebrated career. In November 2005, he was retired to stud with more than $2.7 million in total career earnings and was later named Champion 3-Year-Old Colt for that year. The Afleet Alex Belmont Stakes shoe was secured by his noted assistant trainer and stable foreman Rocky Romero, who personally inscribed the shoe on its reverse in black marker denoting its most special significance. The shoe remains easily accessible for further viewing within its 10x10"linen backed shadowbox display case and is accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity for further provenance. This is an incredible opportunity to possess an authentic race-worn shoe associated with one of the most memorable and distinguished winners of the esteemed Belmont Stakes.
