Alexander Cartwright Signed Receipt
The REAL father of baseball, Alexander Joy Cartwright, whom baseball revisionists ignored to push the myth of Abner Doubleday (though Cartwright was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1938) attached his very rare signature and very elegant signature to this October 4, 1879 receipt for a $100 check to an M. Paiko. By then, Cartwright, a descendant of British sea captains, was living in Hawaii a long way from the lower Manhattan streets where he invented the rules of baseball in 1845. He died July 12, 1892 at age 72. Signature in fountain pen is NRMT and gorgeous. Receipt NRMT and is festooned with an oblong "A.J. Cartwright" logo..
