Babe Didrickson Zaharias Collection Including Inlaid Diamond Putter Presented by Walter Winchell and Pool Cue Presented by President of Brunswick

Super-athlete Babe Didrikson could do it all - track and field, golf, the Olympics, baseball, and basketball, to name only a few - and offered here is quite a collection of items all originating from the Babe. Two highlights are 1) a brass head putter with an inlaid diamond presented to Didrikson by gossip columnist Walter Winchell, its spare metal grace only marred by a ? inch chip missing from its green wood handle, and 2) a vintage mother of pearl pool cue, ornate and fancifully dedicated at the end of its handle by the president of Brunswick, “Presented to Babe Didrikson by R.E. Kennedy, the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co., Jan 15, 1933.” Putter measures 35 ?”, and the cue, at 57”, comes with gloriously broken-in leather cover with engraving, “Mildred Babe Didrikson from Ruth McGinnis.” Also included are: 1) “Whatta-Gal - The Babe Didrikson Story” by William Oscar Johnson and Nancy P. Williamson (1977), and inscribed “6/28/77 For the Bowens, With my thanks for their wonderful anecdotes and loving memories of Whatta-Gal, Nancy Williamson.” Includes newspaper book reviews and another signed inscription to the Bowens on Sports Illustrated memo, dated also 6/28/77. EX. 2) “This Life I’ve Lived,” a 1955 autobiography by Didrikson, and inscribed, “For the dearest friends in all the world to me. Bertha and R.L., gratefully yours “Babe,” “Babe” D. Zaharias, Mar.1955.” EX. 3) Autographed copy of 1948 “Championship Golf” by Mildred Didrikson Zaharias. 4) Autographed copy of “Super Champ” Babe Didrikson Zaharias by Dewitt Weaver - Texas Sports Hall of Fame Representative. 5) Cassette tape of first and only record produced of Babe playing the harmonica and friend, Betty Dodd, playing the guitar and singing the song “Detour, There’s a Muddy Road Ahead.” 6) Large 31x42” picture of Babe. 7) Book “Babe Didrikson, Girl Athlete” by Lena Young de Grummond.
