Babe Ruth Signed Blue Star Banner (JSA)

Babe Ruth Signed Blue Star Banner (JSA)

During World War II, Babe Ruth was active in working with the U.S. military and with various groups to support United States service personnel. Ruth had played his last season in 1935. Offered is a Blue Star Banner signed and inscribed by the Yankee Sultan of Swat. Blue Star Banners were first used in World War II and have a white field surrounded by a red border, with a blue star representing each family member on active military duty during a time of war. In later years, gold stars were added to symbolize a family member who died while in military service during a war. The banner measures 6x8". The colors, particularly the red, have faded because of the passage of time. There are a number of small rips and tears on the flag and a few small stains. The display has two color photos, each measuring approx. 3.75x3.75", that show: 1) Ruth, dressed in a military uniform, although he was not actually in the armed services, saluting an unknown military officer. 2) Ruth in civilian clothes, relaxing and smoking a cigar and chatting with a Navy service member. The Blue Star Banner and the two photos have been matted and framed at 11x14". Under the white portion of the banner, Ruth has inscribed "Sincerely" and added his signature "Babe Ruth." Both the inscription and the signature were written in black ink from a roller. The inscription and signature have significantly faded over time yet are still visible. The offering comes with a JSA LOA, and the entire display depicts Ruth in his post career work in support of the United States military.
