Pain and suffering are written all over this magnificently abused 1981-82 Capitals jersey that covered the back (just barely by the time its day was done) of Swedish center Bengt Gustafsson. Shirt is covered with grime, shredded areas, stick marks and a gross of team repairs. Some existing threads are loose, no doubt from close encounters in front of the net and in the corners. Appears to have been a nameplate change along the way. Gustafsson, one of the first Swedes to play in the NHL, skated with the Caps from ‘79-89, topping out at 23 goals and 75 points in 1985-86. Classic white Caps shirt has 6 red and blue stars above the team name on the chest, “Gustafsson” in blue across the back and “16” in red and blue on the back and both sleeves. Blue and red piping across middle with “Maska” in white on the back blue waistband stripe. Maska Ultrafit tag on collar with laundering tag, both heavily washed out. Fight straps intact. Hockey in all its gory glory, and a great Caps display piece. LOA, photo match shows Bengt presenting it to a female fan, the previous owner.
