Cal Ripken's First Game Used Baseball

Cal Ripken's First Game Used Baseball

OAL (MacPhail) baseball is game used from the first complete game of Cal Ripken's brilliant career, the true beginning of his Hall of Fame legacy. The ball shows nice use and is inscribed in ballpoint on the panel, 8/21/81 - Balt - Oakland, Tvd to Florida and Eastern Shore, Plate. The game was played in Oakland on August 21, 1981 . The plate umpire from that game (now retired) has held onto the ball, and has included his handwritten LOA with signature on the back of his business card, attesting to what is inscribed on the ball. Unaware of the phenomenal feats the young rookie would accomplish later on the ball was originally saved as a keepsake by the umpire because the game was to be televised cross country to his home in Florida as well as his parents home in Delaware. He has also written and signed the LOA again on the outside of the balls cardboard box.
