Second base used for the 4th inning of Cal Ripken Jr.’s last Major League game. In a sense it symbolizes twenty-one years, the highlights, the friendships, “The Streak”. It’s impossible to imagine the thoughts and emotions that charged through Cal as he played the final nine innings of his legendary career, but this piece of the infield certainly takes us closer to that moment. Signature in black sharpie, sits to the left of a screened image of himself. “1981-2001” denotes his unforgettable tenor in the Big Leagues. This unique “Original Hollywood base” was manufactured expressly for this final game, marking an end to a truly remarkable career. Four small affixed plates on the base’s sides display Ripken’s legendary number “8” on two sides, “Orioles” on another, and the American flag on the other. Written on underside in black marker is, “October 6, 2001, 8th Inning, 2nd”. Displays good game use and the MLB authenticating hologram affixed to the underside.
