Charles Howard Horse Program Collection (150+)
The C. S. Howard Racing Stable was a ubiquitous and powerful presence in horse racing, and this massive collection of more than 150 original track programs spanning the years from 1936 to 1950 represent the myriad of racing entries associated with Charles Howard and the famed West Coast racetracks where they competed. This enormous grouping features programs from Santa Anita Park, Hollywood Park, Del Mar, Bay Meadows, Golden Gate, and even a program from south-of-the-border Agua Caliente. The most impressive compilation features several of the most esteemed stakes races in California, as well as some of the names of the most recognizable owners of the era including: Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Louie B Mayer, Alfred Vanderbilt Jr. and C. V. Whitney. Among the important horses who can be found in the collection are the noted turf titans Azucar, Ligoratti, Lord Boswell, Pompoon, and very likely many more yet to be discovered by the winning bidder. A fabulous find for any vintage racing buff or track historian.
