Pastel from the Art Deco period, by Charles Sheldon is a wonderfully sexy image of a woman of the day, rendered by this important illustrator. Most likely original art for a late 1920's or early 1930's magazine cover / advertisement. Charles Sheldon (1889-1961) was a well-known illustrator and portrait painter who is believed to have studied in Paris under Alphonse Mucha. Sheldon achieved some prominence for his paintings of movie stars for the cover of <i>Photoplay</i> magazine in the 1920’s and other magazines after that. He worked mostly in pastels, and this piece is a typical representation. Unsigned on the front, as is common with illustration art intended for print, his name is signed on a separate piece of paper on the back. EX.
