Circa 1852 "Race for the Great St. Ledger Stakes at Doncaster" Watercolor Aquatint by J. Pollard

British painter James Pollard made his reputation as a master illustrator of equine scenes such as this one, entitled "Race for the Great St. Ledger at Doncaster, 112 Subscribers at 50 Sov. each." Right under the photo on the left reads: "Painted by J. Pollard." The work measures 18.5x23" framed and is a fine example of 19th Century sports art. Stockwell was declared the winner of this particular race.
