Circa 1919 Notice of Player Release Book With Release of James Bottomley

Circa 1919 Notice of Player Release Book With Release of James Bottomley

Hall of Fame first baseman "Sunny" Jim Bottomley, the NL MVP in 1928, came to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1922 via Branch Rickey's famed minor-league "pipeline." Two years before, on October 27, 1920, Rickey deemed him not ready and released the 19-year-old to Memphis of the Southern League, a demotion charted on a page numbered 1469 in this extraordindary "Notice of Player's Release" book bearing Rickey's stamped signature on many pages though not Bottomley's. Front cover is missing but otherwise EX condition with very few pages (not Bottomley's) frayed or browned.
