Circa 1924-28 Ty Cobb Game Used Bat (34.75”)

Circa 1924-28 Ty Cobb Game Used Bat (34.75”)

The ultimate bat for the ultimate bat collector. Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own the bat used by the most perfect hitter in all of baseball history. He led the league in batting average 11 consecutive times, and for 14 total seasons and has the highest career batting average in history. Part of the reason for his success was his hitting savvy. He wasn’t a slugger who constantly swung for the fences, but hit more for accuracy and control based on the particular game strategy. For this reason, he always used a split handed grip with one hand by the knob and the other hand several inches higher on the handle. As you can see with this bat, there is grip tape wrapped in two spots, where he held his hands. The tape is thick from being wrapped around several times and has hardened from age. Hillerich & Bradsby with slightly tapered handle is a signature model and shows strong signs of game use. The years have left the bat with a classic, aged look. Barrel has several knicks, a result of Cobb's trademark habits at the plate, which included gouging the barrel against his cleats. No splintering or cracks. A truly momentous piece of lumber. The taped spots on Cobb's bat is well documented in photos of him from this time period.
