Circa 1941 Baseball Flown Over Atlantic Ocean During World War II

Circa 1941 Baseball Flown Over Atlantic Ocean During World War II

An amazing story comes with this well-traveled Official National League (Frick) baseball. It originates from the collection of a Colonel Schroeder, who served in World War II, and the ball dates to the 1941-42 period. Written on a side panel near the crisp main stamp in black ink is, "This ball flew the Atlantic twice with U.S.O Unit 417 and was in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Germany," along with a signature by sportswriter J. Roy Stockton. Also included is the original Spalding bag. A few other baseballs from Colonel Schroeder's collection are in this sale, and this ball presents beautifully.
