Circa 1954-1956 Mickey Mantle Game Used Bat (35”)
One of the most glorified sticks in the history of the Major Leagues is this Hillerich & Bradsby M110, consecrated by the magic touch of one of the greatest idols in baseball and handed down for your appreciation. His amazing feats and unforgettable performances under the watchful eye of the Big Apple propelled Mantle into the nation’s spotlight and into the hearts of New Yorkers for all of eternity. He was a truly rare talent who owned both sides of the plate, sometimes homering from both sides in a single game (10 times over the course of his career), who possessed enough skill to homer with one arm while playing injured. But it wasn’t only his home runs that made him special. It was the way he completely dominated offensively with the ability to take over games at the most crucial moments that went into the making of one of the most loved Yankee legends of all time. The 1950’s were especially memorable for Mantle and the Yankees. New York hosted 7 World Series in ten years, the Yanks winning 5 championships. Mantle collected 2 AL MVP awards, the Triple Crown and a batting title, while leading the league in home runs 4 times. This 32-ounce hunk of vintage lumber (slightly darkened from age) is a shining example of Mickey Mantle’s weapon of choice with great use evenly distributed all the way around the barrel. How many historic shots could this holy wood have manufactured? Perhaps the one that almost left Yankee Stadium completely (missing by 18 inches), or maybe the 565-footer at Griffith Stadium? One thing’s for sure, the preeminence of this great early piece from the great Yankee legend cannot be overstated. Small piece missing from the knob and there is a slight crack in the handle. His number “7” looks to have been written on the knob at some time when it was used, but is now barely legible.
