Citation Runner-Up Santa Anita Handicap Horseshoe

Citation Runner-Up Santa Anita Handicap Horseshoe

In 1948, Citation dominated the world of horse racing, capturing 19 out of 20 starts and finishing second once. Among the races won were the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes, making him only the eighth Triple Crown winner in history. An entire generation would speculate for the next 25 years whether any horse would ever duplicate the feats of Citation until Secretariat hit the scene in 1973. This is an original horseshoe worn by Citation during his 1950 Santa Anita Handicap where he was beat by Hall of Famer, Noor. It is offered in a wood plaque mounted and with a plate inscribed. Also comes with an LOA from the great niece of Citation's trainer, Ben Jones, who obtained the shoe from her father.
