Don Mattingly Signed Oil Painting by Robert Stephen Simon
He holds the unusual distinction of being the only Yankee ever to have his number retired without having won a World Series championship. Don Mattingly was so beloved and so gifted by the Yankee fan base and hierarchy, he was feted as if he had been so fortunate. This original oil painting on canvas depicts the brilliant hitter and first baseman against the Stadium backdrop and is signed: "Best Wishes, Don Mattingly" in blue ink. It is also signed "Robert Stephen Simon 85" on the bottom right, above a gold plaque on the bottom of the frame with the engraving: "Don Mattingly by Robert Stephen Simon." The piece measures 20x24" and 24x30" framed.
