Earliest Known Richard Petty STP Racing Crew Shirt
STP made an historical NASCAR decision in 1972 when the corporation sponsored the world-famous Richard Petty Team. Petty holds more records than any driver, including 200 career wins, more than 1,185 starts, and 27 victories in one season with a streak of 10 in a row. Offered is the earliest known Richard Petty race worn crew shirt. In fact, STP doesn't even have a Petty shirt that survived from the first and second years in existence - they had to borrow the offered shirt to produce its 25th Anniversary shirts. A classic looking button down in red and white stripes and blue, reminiscent of the American flag with "Joe" embroidered in white thread on the front left breast and a healthily worn "STP" patch embroidered over the pocket. Back has a larger "STP" patch, even more worn and partially detached. Each sleeve also bears the sewn-on patch, left sleeve with additional, "Flin Racing Apparel" patch. The shirt shows outstanding use and wear, with staining from car oils and emissions ingrained into the fabric.
