Early 1990s Wayne Gretzky Los Angeles Kings Game Used Stick (Sources from Kings Equipment Manager)

Early 1990s Wayne Gretzky Los Angeles Kings Game Used Stick (Sources from Kings Equipment Manager)

Tremendous stick circa early 1990s game used by hockey's GOAT, Wayne Gretzky. As hockey transitioned away from wood sticks, Easton (then known for aluminum baseball bats) came out with the first aluminum shaft, to be set with a wood/fiberglass blade. Being a big proponent of the newfound, lighter equipment, The Great One became synonymous with this type for a while, and this comes from his tenure with the Los Angeles Kings. Nice use shown with some paint transfers, though the cloth tape has been removed from the blade. Handwritten on the end above the knob appears to read "B98" in black marker. And displayed use includes a dent, which is actually significant - though expected to be more durable than their wood counterparts, aluminum shafts had one fatal flaw in that, when they took a nick or dent, they snapped fairly easily thereafter (which led to the growth of more dependable composite graphite shafts). Great provenance as our consignor purchased it from a former Kings equipment manager, so it came straight from the Great One himself.
