Elvis Presely Hawaii Poster (9x12")
After eyeing our rarely-seen copy two auctions back, our Hawaiian consignor gave us this copy and the ticket. His family was lucky enough to attend this historic event. After World War II, there was a great deal of indecision about whether and how to create a fitting memorial for Pearl Harbor. In 1958, Congress authorized such a memorial, but the majority of the funding, at a cost of half a million, fell to private donors. The fundraising bogged down well short of the goal. So it was Elvis to the rescue as he was in Hawaii filming "Blue Hawaii" and was enlisted to perform a benefit concert at Bloch Arena. Curiously, this arena held a musical competition among vessel's bands the night before the infamous Pearl Harbor attack. This was one of only four concerts Elvis would give between 1957 and 1969. As for the date it was originally slated for March 26,1961, but since it was Palm Sunday, Elvis asked that it be moved back a day to the 26th. The poster is in excellent condition and folded in half.
