Emmett Kelly Document Collection with Autographs (80+)
Legendary circus performer Emmett Kelly was known for his "Weary Willie" persona, but less known is that he took off the 1956 season of Ringling Bros. Circus to serve as mascot for the Brooklyn Dodgers. A treasure trove of Kelly-related items: 1) Emmett Kelly's personal address book with interesting notes mentioning naked women, Mickey Mouse and Ringling Brothers wages. 2-4) Three postcards with handwritten notes on back in Kelly's hand. 5-12) 1950 shooting call sheets and fitting pass for Kelly's first film, "The Fat Man," one signed by Kelly. 13-27) Fifteen 1943 Ringling Brothers carbon copy employee wage statements. 28-29) 1933 and 1935 photographs of Emmett Kelly with handwriting on back. 30-49) Twenty-two Emmett Kelly business cards. 50-51) 1954-55 Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus route books. 52) 1937-39 American Federation of Actors member booklet. 53) Emmett Kelly signed "Me Sad?" two-page document. 54-66) Thirteen letters to Emmett Kelly including Pat Valdo. 67) 1956 Master Cue Sheet for Emmett Kelly's ringmaster in "The Greatest Show on Ice" (36 pgs.). 68-83) Paramount Pictures "The Greatest Show on Earth" road schedule, memorandum to staff, meal allowance and song lyrics. Two have handwriting in the hand of Kelly. 84) 1943 diary with some handwriting and return addresses. Few other items as well.
