Fabulous Uncut Henry Stull Presentation Proofs (2)

Fabulous Uncut Henry Stull Presentation Proofs (2)

Published by Goupil circa 1890-91, they are in superb condition because they did not see the light for decades since the bankruptcy of Goupil, Boussod and Valadon in 1914. In addition to having never been framed, and extremely rare and difficult to find, these two oversized presentation proofs in black and white were for the artist’s approval and use. They were obtained from the Galerie Laurencin, in Lyon, France, about fifteen years ago. The gallery had bought these from the heirs of the dealer who purchased the items at the beginning of World War I and put them in storage for safekeeping. 1) Salvator, with Jockey Isaac Murphy up. 2) Tenny, with Jockey “Snapper” Garrison up. The dimensions for both are 40.5x29” having very large margins on heavy paper. For Salvator, the image and descriptive data are about 28x23.75” and Tenny is about 29.5x22.75”. Both horses were involved in the famous match race at Coney Island Jockey Club’s racetrack in Sheepshead Bay, NY.
