Folklore Breeders' Cup Blanket from the Collection of Bob & Beverly Lewis

Folklore Breeders' Cup Blanket from the Collection of Bob & Beverly Lewis

The royal purple blanket tells the memorable story of champion filly Folklore, who earned the right to wear it with a brilliant 14-length victory in the 2005 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Belmont Park along with Eclipse Award accolades in the same division. Finishing in the money in all of her eight career starts, including four wins, Folklore was bred and owned by racing luminaries Bob and Beverly Lewis and trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas. The Lewises were known throughout the racing industry for their graciousness -- in victory and defeat. Together, they raced approximately 50 stakes winners, including Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winners Silver Charm and Charismatic, who both narrowly missed Triple Crown titles in 1997 and 1999, respectively. In the prestigious 2005 Breeders' Cup at Belmont Park, Folklore, ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado, won the 1 1/16-mile Juvenile Fillies race over a talented field. The Lewises were later presented with the 66 x 83" commemorative blanket featuring the embroidered and applique Breeders' Cup insignia, which highlights Folklore as the 2005 Juvenile Fillies Champion. Folklore's Blanket emanates directly from the Lewis family private collection and is being auctioned to benefit the Racetrack Chaplaincy of America as per the wishes of the Lewis family. <p>Size: 66x83"</p>
