Hall of Fame Letter and Check Collection (3) - Collins, Hoyt & Barrow
Collection of two letters and a check, each signed by a different member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. <strong>1) Eddie Collins.</strong> One-page typed letter, dated August 9, 1944, on "Boston American League Baseball Company" letterhead. In his letter, Collins writes to a fan who had requested a number of autographs from players attending Connie Mack's "Fifty Years as a Manager" celebration. Collins replies that he was unable to honor the request, but he was including an autograph of his along with a program from the event. Signed "Eddie Collins" in blue fountain pen (8/10). 8.5x11". Collins was general manager of the Boston Red Sox at the time. EX, with two mailing folds. <strong>2) Waite Hoyt.</strong> One-page typed letter, dated November 19, 1978, on "National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Inc." letterhead. In his letter to a fan, Hoyt offers his comparison between the present-day ballplayers and those from his era. Signed "Waite C. Hoyt" in blue ink (8/10). 8.5x11". VG, with tiny edge tears, a paperclip impression, and light creasing. <strong>3) Ed Barrow.</strong> Bank check, dated July 11, 1951, made out to the "Biltmore Pharmacy" in the amount of $16.05. Signed "E. G. Barrow" in black ink (9/10) along the base. Stamped endorsement on the reverse. The check (7.75x2.75") displays normal bank cancellation stamps and holes, along with vertical fold (affects the signature). VG.
