Hank Greenberg Single-Signed Baseball (PSA)

Hank Greenberg Single-Signed Baseball (PSA)

Hank Greenberg was a home run slugger who threatened Babe Ruth's then single season record of 60 homers when Greenberg bashed 58 in 1938. He was the first United States Jewish superstar in team sports. Presented is a single signed Hank Greenberg baseball, a very desired signature. The Hall of Fame first baseman grew up in the Bronx, in New York City. "Hammerin' Hank" missed more than three seasons of play while serving in the U.S. military during World War II. Greenberg played 13 seasons of big-league ball, the first 12 with the Detroit Tigers before a final season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was in that final season of his career that Greenberg offered encouragement to Jackie Robinson, breaking the "color line" with the Brooklyn Dodgers. After his playing career, Greenberg became the farm director, and then the general manager, of the Cleveland Indians, and helped to bring more African American players to the major Leagues than any other team during his tenure. Greenberg has signed on the sweet spot with a clearly written signature made with a blue fountain pen. The baseball is a Spalding Official League Ball, circa 1950s-1960s. Comes with PSA LOA.
