Harlem As Seen By Hirschfeld

Harlem As Seen By Hirschfeld

For over seventy years Al Hirschfeld provided not only a record of American entertainment, but one delineated by his supreme talent. During the early forties though his focus carried him away from the theatre district, where so many of his subjects had strolled, and up Broadway to bustling Harlem. It was there he would find a renewed passion and inspiration that would fuel his mind and his pen. In twenty-four brilliantly colored lithographic illustrations Hirschfeld has captured perfectly the people, the fashion, the music, and the essence that made Harlem the cultural mecca it was. Measuring 18”x14”, this white cloth covered book owns an appearance as stylish as the subjects themselves. Inscribed by the author, “To Don & Lydia because they’re my friends. Hirschfeld Dec 9/41.” A first edition, published in limited numbers (382/1000) by Hyperion Press in 1941. Overall excellent with NRMT tipped in lithographs inside. One of the finest art books ever created.
