Harold "Pie" Traynor Full Name Autograph (PSA MINT 9)

Harold "Pie" Traynor Full Name Autograph (PSA MINT 9)

Pie Traynor is regarded as the best third baseman in Major League history prior to 1950. Offered is the opportunity possess a Harold "Pie" Traynor full name autograph. As a child growing up in Somerville, Massachusetts, Traynor liked to order pie from a local grocery store, and the store owner began calling him "Pie Face." Later, the nickname was shortened by his friends to merely "Pie," and the nickname stuck. Traynor played his entire career for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1920-35 & '37). Traynor batted .320 lifetime, with seven seasons of more than 100 RBIs. As for his defense at third base, he was a 7-time NL leader in putouts, a 4-time NL leader in double plays, and a 3-time NL leader in assists. Before the ascension of Eddie Mathews, Brooks Robinson, George Brett, and Mike Schmidt in the 1950s-1970s, Traynor was usually considered the best third baseman in baseball history. Traynor has stylishly signed a 3x5", blank index card, using ink from a fountain pen. He has signed his first name, his nickname (Pie) and his last name. Traynor has put his nickname in quotation marks, and, purposely or not, he has constructed the "P" in "Pie" with an extra-large letter "P" so that the top part of the letter "P" seems to be by itself a large pie. Traynor's use of large first letters in each of his three names gives the autograph a very theatrical flair. The signed card exhibits darkening from the passage of time, but both the signature and the index card are in excellent condition. The signed card has been encapsulated, and the Traynor autograph graded PSA MINT 9.
