Harry Wright Signed Boston/Providence 1881 Score Sheet
Hall of Famer Harry Wright was one of the most important figures in baseball history. He organized, managed and played center field for baseball's first fully professional team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. He also designed the standard baseball uniform and created the box scoring system. Here we have a wonderful example of his scorekeeping innovation in this 4"x6.5" signed box score from a May 17th, 1883 game in which the Providence Grays lost to the Buffalo Bison 13-4. Wright meticulously filled in this scorecard with pencil and signed his name on the bottom as well.
