Harry Caray "Holy Cow" Single-Signed Baseball

Harry Caray "Holy Cow" Single-Signed Baseball

Harry Caray, in the Broadcasters' Wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame, was an iconic radio and television baseball announcer who was a unique voice from the broadcasters'' booth, with his trademark phrase as "Holy Cow." Offered is a single-signed Harry Caray "Holy Cow" baseball. Caray announced games for five Major League teams. He was the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals for 25 years (1945-69) and spent the 1945-46 seasons simultaneously as a broadcaster with the St. Louis Browns and the St. Louis Cards. He announced Oakland Athletics' games for the 1970 season, then was an announcer for the Chicago White Sox (1971-81) and the Chicago Cubs (1982-97). Caray was unashamedly a rooter for the team he broadcast, and he was one of the first announcers to announce outside of the broadcast booth, often sitting with fans in the bleachers, sometimes with his shirt off. Caray would sometimes earn the anger of ball players for his criticism of their play. Caray explained, "I am the eyes and ears of the fans. If I do not tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, the fans don't want to know." Carey's gravelly voice and his enormous eyeglasses were sometimes the object of humor on the Saturday Night Live television show. At the ballpark, Carey established a tradition of singing along with the fans over the public address system during the playing of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." Harry's son (Skip) and grandson (Chip) became Major League announcers, and Harry Caray's great grandsons, twins Chris and Stefan Caray, began announcing careers with the minor league Amarillo Sod Poodles. Writing in blue ink from a ballpoint pen, Caray has inscribed and signed the Rawlings Official National League Ball (White) on a side panel, "Holy Cow Harry Caray." Caray's signature is 8/10, and the ball exhibits a few very small smudges and is in overall very good condition.
