Historic 1894 Programs from One of the Former Premier Racetracks in the U.S. (2)

Historic 1894 Programs from One of the Former Premier Racetracks in the U.S. (2)

Offered are two unmarked programs in excellent plus condition with outstanding graphics from a bygone area. When first built, the Coney Island Jockey Club Racetrack was hailed as the finest facility in the world for thoroughbred racing. The only reason these programs, which are most likely unique, not receiving a NM-MT designation, is that they show some fading but consistent with aging. The first, June 20, 1894, is for the 1st day of the meeting. The feature was the Double Event won by Hall of Fame rider Henry Griffin. Willie Sims, also a H.O.F. rider, won two races. The second program is for the 8th day of the meet on June 28, 1894. The Tidal Sakes was won by Dobbins with Sims up, and the L.I. Handicap by Sir Walter with Doggett in the saddle.
