Honus Wagner Checks (5)

Honus Wagner Checks (5)

Five Wagner signed checks from 1918, the 1st year of his retirement, at least from the big leagues. With his HOF Pirate career over, the Flying Dutchman continued playing semi-pro ball around Pittsburgh for another 7 years. No surprise there. Even during his glittering career in which he hit .329 lifetime, he played more out of a love for the game than money, frequently turning down lucrative offers to jump the Bucs for greener pastures. The National Bank of Carnegie checks, all with "John H. Wagner" imprinted on the left side, are written entirely in Wagner's hand and signed the same way in flowing blue fountain pen, grading 9/10. All checks EX-MT.
