Honus Wagner Comedy Photos W/Card (8)

Honus Wagner Comedy Photos W/Card (8)

Here’s a lighter look at The Flying Dutchman. Good-natured and modest, Honus Wagner was a fixture in Pittsburg. He played for 17 seasons. He coached for an additional 39 years. He became one of the first five players to be elected to the Hall of Fame...and he had some fun, as this collection of Honus Wagner Comedy Photos show. These all black & white shots show Honus in various groupings. One 8 x 10” NRMT photo is literally a great shot...it shows Honus holding a rifle pretending to “hold up” a bunch of guys. Looks like it was a publicity photo. The balance of the collection measure 4 x 5” and shows Honus admiring a movie camera, posing with various groups, giving baseball tips, posing in a family grouping and more. All pictures have some yellowing and are ready for framing. There’s also a card with the logo design of the Greater Pittsburgh Film Exchange. This collection shows a side of Honus Wagner that we haven’t seen before. For 56 years, Wagner was a fixture in Pittsburgh, as a player for 17 years and as a coach for 39 more. In that time, Wagner was the first player to have his signature on a Louisville Slugger (1905), had his face put on an early baseball card that is now worth more than $100,000 (1909), served as a sergeant at arms for the Pennsylvania state legislature (1929), and became one of the first five players elected to the Hall of Fame (1936).
