Huge 75th Kentucky Derby 1949 Original Photo in Original Frame (63x41")

Huge 75th Kentucky Derby 1949 Original Photo in Original Frame (63x41")

An enormous tribute, this framed 63x41" original photo depicts the 75th Anniversary of the Kentucky Derby, held on May 7, 1949. Clearly larger than a normal display piece, it likely hung in a bar or restaurant, or possibly at the legendary track itself, and captures the excitement of the horses rounding the turn at Churchill Downs. There are some rough spots on the photo itself, but considering its size and vintage, it's amazing that it has survived at all. Ponder was the winner of that anniversary race, just five years after his father, Pensive, finished first in the 1944 Run for the Roses. Since its first edition in 1875, the Kentucky Derby remains as the only leg of the Triple Crown which has been held continuously every year.
