Huge Collection of Fan Letters Written to Shoeless Joe Jackson (169)

Huge Collection of Fan Letters Written to Shoeless Joe Jackson (169)

In 1921, Shoeless Joe Jackson was banned from baseball due to his alleged involvement in the Black Sox scandal of 1919 but he has had no shortage of fans as is demonstrated by this outpouring to Jackson and his family in the form of letters (68), sympathy cards (53), Christmas cards (19), Post cards (16), Get-Well cards (6), Western Union telegrams (2), a letter from University Hills Nursery, as well as 3 empty envelopes and a blank letter with envelopes all with either Joe's or his wife Kate's name on it. Much of the correspondence is to Mrs. Jackson in addition to Joe, and it is of a very supportive nature and includes people who are incredibly determined to clear the name of her husband. One letter was sent from a gentleman in California and it tells of his own personal ordeal of being framed for something he did not do. The gentleman tells Joe to remain strong. Everything here was sent to Joe Jackson and originally came from a Jackson family member.
