Important 1926 Babe Ruth Presentational Pocket Watch

Important 1926 Babe Ruth Presentational Pocket Watch

Coin silver pocket watch presented to the Sultan of Swat on his 1926 barnstorming tour. From his landmark visit to Montreal, Quebec (Canada), where he arrived amid much hoopla. The City Fathers presented him this lovely Waltham pocket watch in gleaming silver. Face is pure white porcelain with old style Roman numerals. Facing is the monumental engraving which is clearly vintage, "Montreal 1926 Babe Ruth." Interestingly, his name is engraved in a flowery script almost like his facsimile signature. Ruth gave this watch to a gentleman in Montreal who took care of him while he was there, and it was kept in the family for decades. It was donated and displayed in the Montreal Baseball Museum, then recently de-acquisitioned. This important piece has not seen the light of day until now. Watch itself is a 1920's vintage "Waltham Coin…8348." It is working, has couple of small hairlines to the face but is overall excellent. One of the few Babe Ruth awards that never made it to Cooperstown and has reached the marketplace.
