Important Dummy Taylor Letter on How Mack Beat McGraw In 1905 World Series (PSA)
Dummy Taylor, a deaf-mute ballplayer in the early 20th century, was regarded as a hero at the time by the deaf community. In 1906 while with the New York Giants, Taylor maintained an ERA lower than that of future Hall of Fame teammates Christy Mathewson and Joe McGinnity. This letter written by Taylor details how McGraw beat Mack in the 1905 World Series, stating, "The reason why we beat Phila Athletics in the Series in 1905 every one on our team gave out signals and worked altogether. When Mack heard of it he ordered his men to learn the sign language the next time they met the Giants and his men could read and that's how they beat McGraw."
