Impressive 1850s English Bronze Horse Racing Trophy Incense Burner/Urn
Magnificent Neoclassical funeral urn from the Greco-Roman period, this was created for a beloved race horse's remains. Truly a work of art in elegant bronze with distinctive ebony wash and ornate detail around the base of an embossed racing scene, complete with a clubhouse and horses racing. Tudor Revival Style with horse heads, a low relief of the race, trumpeting angel handles, crenellated crown shields and a rowing figure finial. Unmarked, but a top 19th century bronze maker. Good heavy patina, great condition, one trumpet missing. Height 15.25" and weighs 12 lbs.
