Incredible Ty Cobb Signed Photo to Grantland Rice

Incredible Ty Cobb Signed Photo to Grantland Rice

The story goes, that as a young writer Grantland Rice began receiving letters from various towns in Georgia, all hailing the incredible baseball talents of a young kid from Royston named Ty Cobb. This "kid" could run like a deer, and hit like thunder, it was not long before Rice came down to see the youngster himself. The two became fast friends, and it was Rice who first hailed Cobb as the next big thing. It was'nt until many years later that Cobb confessed that he himself had written those letters, and in turn jumpstarted his own career. Offered is an amazing relic from that relationship, one of the earliest known images of Cobb, signed "To Grant, From His Friend, Ty" in blue fountain pen. The signed photo itself is pictured in Rice's biography, "The Tumult and the Shouting" (included). Near Mint. 8 x 10 inches.
