Jackie Robinson's 1962 Hall of Fame Induction Collection

Jackie Robinson's 1962 Hall of Fame Induction Collection

Fabulous group of material from the day that he became the first African American inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Includes: his "Admission To Speakers' Platform" ticket (never seen), two museum tickets, his HOF "Members" list with "Jack R. Robinson" as the final name, 1962 HOF brochure, July 23rd 1962 program list including "Dedication of plaques of…Jack Roosevelt Robinson," his museum book, two unused tickets to the HOF game (Yankees-Braves), and two fabulous "Hall of Fame" celluloid pins with "Guest 1962" blue silk ribbons below (for Jackie & Rachel). Plus, elaborate Hall of Fame Dinner Program at the Waldorf-Astoria three days prior held by Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC. With 12x24" panoramic photo of the dinner showing Jackie & Rachel Robinson, Branch Rickey, Nelson Rockefeller & Jersey Joe Walcott. Overall EX-MT.The First. And, without question, the most significant man to ever play the game of baseball. The man who broke baseball’s color line, Jackie Robinson was also the first African-American to win the Most Valuable Player Award and the first to be honored as Rookie of the Year (the award is now named for him). He is also the only baseball player, black or white, to be on a United States postage stamp and minted coin and the first African-American to be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (in 1962 he was elected in his first year of eligibility, the first since Lou Gehrig in 1939). While Babe Ruth changed the way in which we played the game, Jackie changed the way we think. We are proud to say that each of these select pieces are from the collection of Jackie’s wife, Rachel Robinson. Each will come with her signed letter of authenticity.
