Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodgers Cap

Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodgers Cap

From the private collection of Rachel Robinson. Marvelous quality vintage 1950’s cap in wool bleeds Dodger blue. Front sports a sparkling white sewn-on “B” with matching button on the top. Turn it over and interestingly, the band has been custom designed. A piece of the band has been exposed and a section of white stretchable cloth that allows the band to expand has been added at the factory level. This may have been to accommodate a head protector of some kind, which Jackie often used as he was the target of many a bean ball and other rough play through his career. Unfortunately, there is no record of this style of “B” having ever been worn by the Brooklyn Dodgers on their caps. There are no markings inside as was the case with the majority of JR caps from the family. However, this is from the personal archive of Jackie Robinson and will come with a letter of authenticity from his wife Rachel Robinson clearly stating this unknown purpose. The hard brim material under the cloth is cracked in two places and there is also some separation of the leather from the band. Outside of cap and color is excellent.
