Jackie Robinson Personal Effects (10)

Jackie Robinson Personal Effects (10)

Interesting pieces including: 1949 World Series scorecard, rare 1954 Town Meeting brochure with Jackie Robinson speaking on prejudice, 100th Anniversary Equitable Life 1959 medallion (3.5"), metallic figural golf bag clip (4"), gold electroplated Sheaffer pen, 1947 100 Years of Public Higher Education 3" medallion from his rookie year in original display case, brown leather display box, 1969 Washington DC Centennial BB Dinner program, Associated Negro Press business card, "Grossinger's C.C." (Country Club) metal plaque. Overall EX.The First. And, without question, the most significant man to ever play the game of baseball. The man who broke baseball’s color line, Jackie Robinson was also the first African-American to win the Most Valuable Player Award and the first to be honored as Rookie of the Year (the award is now named for him). He is also the only baseball player, black or white, to be on a United States postage stamp and minted coin and the first African-American to be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame (in 1962 he was elected in his first year of eligibility, the first since Lou Gehrig in 1939). While Babe Ruth changed the way in which we played the game, Jackie changed the way we think. We are proud to say that each of these select pieces are from the collection of Jackie’s wife, Rachel Robinson. Each will come with her signed letter of authenticity.
