Jackie Robinson & Roger Maris Signed Softball (PSA)
Presented is a deBeer Clincher softball with the signatures of Jackie Robinson and Roger Maris. The ball also includes the autographs of former New York Yankees pitcher Hal Reniff and MLB's first designated hitter, the Yankees' Ron Bloomberg. Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson transcends baseball as his breaking of the Major League "Color Barrier" in 1947 was one of the foremost civil rights advances in American history. Despite enormous pressure, Robinson broke into the Major Leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 with a stellar season, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award. That season Robinson batted .297, with a NL leading 29 stolen bases. Robinson won the NL MVP in 1949, leading the NL both in batting (.343) and stolen bases (37). Robinson was a 7-time All-Star and finished his 10-year career with Brooklyn batting .311. Maris had his best season in 1961 when as a New York Yankee he hit 61 home runs, beating Babe Ruth's single season record at the time. In '61, the right fielder also knocked in 142 runs and won the American League MVP, the second year in a row he was the AL MVP. Maris played 12 Major League seasons, seven with the New York Yankees, and he also played for the Cleveland Indians, the Kansas City Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals. Maris was a 7-time All-Star, and he was a part of three World Series winners. The 12-inch softball has a kapok cover, and it appears unused. There is some darkening on the softball cover due to age. The Robinson and Maris signatures are both signed horizontally around the sweet spot. Both the Robinson and Maris signatures are neatly and clearly written in blue ballpoint pen, as are the other signatures. The Robinson and Maris signatures on a softball make an unusual, and valuable collectible. The softball comes with a full PSA Letter of Authentication.
