Jackie Robinson Signed Photo to his Wife Rachel

Jackie Robinson Signed Photo to his Wife Rachel

Future Brooklyn Dodger Jackie Robinson was on a ship home to America, having just left Hawaii two days earlier where he had just played in an exhibition football game for the semi-pro Honolulu Bears, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. By April 1942, Robinson was inducted into the United States Army, and pictured here is the young lieutenant, sharply dressed though not without a sense of humor as he inscribes, jokingly, to his future wife, Rachel, “How do these pants fit? Which picture do you want?” Rachel was a riveter at Lockheed Aircraft, and Jackie goes on to write, “Hi Darling, I love you with all my heart and am missing you very much.” Photo is signed “Jack,” and measures 2 ? x 4 ?”. Slabbed for posterity and authenticity by PSA/DNA.
