"Jampol" 1953 Manhattan Handicap Silver Trophy

"Jampol" 1953 Manhattan Handicap Silver Trophy

The Westchester Racing Association's 1953 Manhattan Handicap was won by Jampol, ridden by Jorge Contreras. Presented here is this silver trophy cup from that victory, engraved on the front as, "WESTCHESTER RACING ASSOCIATION, The Manhattan Handicap, 1953, Won by Max Kahlbaum's Jampol." Measures 8" wide, 4" base, and 8" tall with removable top lid. This cup signifies excellence and was only given to champions. As for the race, The Manhattan was a famous and historic race with its inaugural running in 1867 at Jerome Park, making it America's third oldest stakes race. An important Grade I event run at Belmont Park in 2015, it had a purse of $1 million. For your edification, Jampol ran second in the previous year's Preakness Stakes (1952).
