Jockey Earl Sande (44 photos)

Large archive of this jockey who won three Kentucky Derbys and was perhaps “the” rider of the Roaring Twenties. Great stuff here: honored as riding three Kentucky Derby winners (1941), aboard Gallant Fox after winning the 1930 Preakness (2), on Gallant Fox in 1930 (2), with Jock Whitney (money man behind "Gone with the Wind"), with Stagehand who won the 1938 Santa Anita Handicap, pioneering shots including some as early as 1924, with Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons (1964), lots of early and great portrait material, with The Chief in 1938 (2), with jockey Laverne Fator in 1936, Stagehand in winner's circle after beating Seabiscuit (1938), at Sam Hildreth’s 1929 funeral, with Osmond in 1930, strange image riding boxer Jack Dempsey in 1933 and more. Some with original paper captions and International Newsreel stamps on versos. Overall 7x9”. Some publishing marks o/w EX-MT.
