For legions of long suffering fans all over Brooklyn, “Wait ‘Till Next Year” finally became “This Year” as the Dodgers won their first and only World Championship in Brooklyn. Left-handed pitcher Johnny Podres won two games for Brooklyn in the Series including a shutout win in Game 7 at Yankee Stadium which clinched the Series for “Dem Bums”. This elegant sterling silver plaque measures approximately 12” X 15 ?” and is mounted on a solid wooden base. The award was presented to Podres following his stellar performance in the 1955 World Series and reads, “The Babe Ruth Award, To The Outstanding Player of the 1955 World Series, Johnny Podres (Brooklyn Dodgers) Presented by the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers Assn of America” and has an engraved image of “The Babe” on the upper portion of the award.
