Johnson vs Burns Fight Advertising Lot (2)
This is a very rare souvenir group of two items from the heavyweight championship fight between Jack Johnson and Tommy Burns in Australia on December 26, 1908. Johnson defeated Burns to become the first African-American to win the coveted title. The first item is a cardboard advertisement for Matador Cigar which reads "Never Burns With A Black Ash." Includes an original photo from the fight. Chipped on left edge, 8.5x9." The second is a very rare illustrated, two-sided mailing envelope advertising the fight. It has been used and is date stamped, exhibits edge and back wear. 4.5x11." An exceptionally rare offering from this important fight.
