Last Salina Ramsay Secretariat Print from the Collection of Penny Chenery

Last Salina Ramsay Secretariat Print from the Collection of Penny Chenery

This fine art portrait of Secretariat by noted Kentucky equine artist Salina Ramsay emanates from the private collection of his famed owner Penny Chenery. The very special limited edition print was presented to Ms. Chenery as a gift from the artist and once adorned the walls of her private residence. The image entitled "Study of a Champion" depicts 1973 Triple Crown champion Secretariat in his distinctive blue and white Meadow Stable blinkers. Produced in 1993 from the original oil on canvas in a limited print run of only 100 total pieces, Ms. Chenery licensed the sale of prints to benefit the Grayson Jockey Club Foundation to help fund research to cure laminitis, the debilitating equine hoof disease that caused the untimely death of Secretariat. Ms. Chenery always admired Ramsay's painting style and commissioned the artist to produce several pieces featuring Secretariat. In fact, "Study of a Champion" was such a favorite that she selected the image as the logo for the 2008 inaugural Secretariat Festival that she helped found, an event that continues to annually attract thousands of Big Red fans to central Kentucky each fall. This particular print, numbered 100/100 in the long sold-out edition, represents the very last print produced, which the artist presented to Ms. Chenery as a token of appreciation for Penny's friendship and support. A handwritten note from the artist accompanies the piece sharing the sentiment so many have for the "The First Lady of Racing." It reads, "Penny, you have always been such an inspiration to me and so many others. You are a beautiful person. Thank you for everything, Salina." This striking portrait, catalogued within the Secretariat/Meadow Stable Archives, is displayed within a double-matted gilded gold frame displaying approximately 24" x 20". A rare opportunity to own a small piece of Secretariat history, direct from Ms. Chenery's home to yours! <p>Size: 19.5x23.5"</p>
