MAD Magazine New York Times Magazine Color Cover Original Art by Norman Mingo (1977). Pen and ink with colored pencil on paper, it's signed by Mingo, who is the most sought of all MAD artists and brings the highest prices. Alfred E. Neuman performs as the Pied Piper in this amazing color preliminary art for the New York Times Magazine featuring "25 Years of Mad'ning America." This artwork itself measures 10.5x12.5", and is in Very Good condition. Frame measures 18x22", the artwork was created for the cover of the New York Times Magazine that commemorated the 25th anniversary of Mad. "THE 'MAD' GENERATION - After 25 years of perpetuating humor in the jugular vein, the magazine that wised up millions of kids is still a crazy hit." It is our understanding that this was to be the cover art for that piece but because of the blackout in New York City, the cover was changed to a blackout cover and this MAD cover art was bumped from appearing. The article still ran in the issue.
