Massive 1879 Championship Trotters Silver Embossed Steer Horn Trophy

Massive 1879 Championship Trotters Silver Embossed Steer Horn Trophy

This item fits into the "must be seen to be appreciated" category. The curve on this 19th century horse racing trophy measures 38" long and 34" from the top of the cover to the bottom tip. Tested for .900 solid silver, at least, the top of the horn is capped with a hinged, ornate silver lid, which opens to reveal the hollowed interior. The plaque is engraved, "Hudson County Driving Association, Won by Horse, Chauncy M. Bedle, and Presented by Col. E.P.C. Lewis, President." The horse's name is misspelled on the plaque (Beedle), and we believe this winning race was Oct 15, 1879.
